Montilla-Moriles Wine

The Montilla-Moriles denomination of origin is located in the South of the province of Córdoba. Its wines are sometimes confused with those of Jerez, though the tradition in the Montilla-Moriles DO and its wines are characterized by their aroma of thyme or rosemary, with a memory in mouth of hazelnuts. There are 3 types of wines in this denomination: Pedro Ximénez, the aged wines and the generous wines. This is an area that has lately developed an ecological wine, with a high potential in the European market.

The climate in this DO is a semi-continental, Mediterranean one, with hot and dry summers and short winters, with a moderate yearly rainfall. The soil has a high quality for vine-growing, since they are frencos, franco arensoos and higher up they are calcareos.

THe varieties of grapes used are mainly Pedro Ximénez, and then Baladí, Moscatell, Torrontés and Layrén. For the red wines, the grape varieties are Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo.
